Trash and Recycling
Garbage will be picked up every Tuesday and Friday including holidays.
Pick up will occur between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
In the event the carter misses your containers, please call Borough Hall at (201) 384-4785 and we will forward the information to the carter.
RECYCLING
PAPER RECYCLING will be pick up every other Wednesday.
GLASS/BOTTLES AND CANS will be picked up every other Wednesday.
PAPER PRODUCTS including shredded paper, coffee cups, newspapers, magazines, catalogues, junk mail, coupons, envelopes (plastic windows need not be removed), writing paper, printer paper, gift wrap, tissue paper, brown paper bags, gift bags, books, including hardcover and paperbacks, telephone books, cardboard egg cartons, cardboard and corrugated boxes, including CLEAN PIZZA boxes unsoiled paper towels and napkins.
Plastic of any size or shape with numbers 1 -7 . NO PLASTIC BAGS OF ANY KIND, FROZEN FOOD MICROWAVE TRAYS, FOOD TRAYS OR PARTY PLATTERS.
NO STYROFOAM OF ANY KIND. NO WAX CARDBOARD.
Glass, including jars & bottles. NO PLATE GLASS or LIGHT BULBS.
Aluminum, steel & tin in the form of cans(coffee, soda, tennis ball, pet food, etc.) aluminum foil, metal bottle caps, pie tins, foil wrappers for candy and snack bars. NO METAL HANGERS.
ALL FOOD CONTAINERS/PACKAGING MUST BE RINSED CLEAN OF FOOD DEBRIS.
Television Recycling: Please be advised that the garbage men will no longer pick up television sets. They must be recycled. Information can be found on the Bergen County Utilities website. Best buy will recycle most consumer electronics, including televisions and monitors up to 32 inches, computers, videocassette recorders, DVD players and phones.
Additional recycling for old tires, computer hardware, televisions and other electronics, as well as hazardous materials and liquids, is available to all Haworth residents through the Bergen County Utilities Authority. These programs are free of charge to all Bergen County residents. Proof of residency is required. Old furniture, clothes, toys, and housewares: You are encouraged to recycle your old clothing, shoes, and linens either by donating to the Vietnam Veterans (1-800-775-VETS), Salvation Army 653-2071, Good Will 621-9560, or local thrift shops. If not donated, furniture may be put at the curb for pick-up Tuesdays or Fridays.
Propane Tanks: Please bring propane tanks to the Household Hazardous Waste Collections (1 lb. And 20 lb. tanks only) or contact either Modern Propane located on Route 46 West in Lodi, NJ (973) 778- 0812 or Suburban Propane located on Route 17, Mahwah, NJ (201) 529-3500 for propane tank removal. Thank you for your cooperation.
Household batteries: Only rechargeable and car batteries are being recycled. They must be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Collections.
