7/5/2026 Storm Update

Dear Haworth neighbors,

The Office of Emergency Management committee met this morning to assess damages and current situation in town.

First, if you see DPW, Police and Fire personnel, and our Buildings official, please thank them. There have been 35 emergency calls since 8:30 last night. Nine homes sustained tree damage--some catastrophic--and numerous vehicles. Three telephone lines were damaged on Schraalenburgh this morning. They have been out with only a very short break to rest since the storm hit and the response from all has been incredible. We thank them profoundly for their dedication and professionalism

Having said that, it is imperative that you follow our safety recommendations.

• Do not walk around town if you can avoid it. All downed wires should be considered live until we notify you. There is also tree debris everywhere. This is a public safety issue. Thank you.

• From Haworth PD: it is a motor vehicle violation if you move and/or drive around barricades. They're there because that roadway is not safely passable. They will ticket you if you go around a barricade. This is a public safety issue. Thank you.

• 230 PSE&G Haworth residents remain without power; crews are also out working. At this time, Sunset Ave is a priority because it's a conduit to Veolia. Crews are there now working to clear. However, all neighborhoods are considered essential to us and they know that and are working as quickly as possible to restore. 

The entirety of Sunset to Oradell; The entirety of Schraaalenburgh from Durie to Chestnut Bend; Haworth Ave from Schraalenburgh to Valley Rd; Myrtle and Ivy closed where they meet; Lakeside East at Haworth Ave;

the Reservoir trail is CLOSED for public safety

Please email our OEM Coordinator, Troy Hilcken, photos of damage sustained to your property due to the storm at Thilcken@haworthnj.org. We need to send a comprehensive list to the County which will help us get monies back.

HAWORTH SWIM CLUB is closed due to damage to fencing at and around the kiddie pool. Please check their website at https://sites.google.com/view/haworthswimclub to stay up to date.

Both crossings in town and Old Hook Road are closed with a train stopped due to debris on tracks.

This storm was fast and intense and Haworth suffered more damage than most surrounding towns. Thankfully, injuries were minimal and our residents are safe. If you find yourself needing help, please do not hesitate to call 911. Stay inside. If you've been out of town, consider extending your time away if you know your home or street is directly impacted. Stay safe. And please know, we are actively monitoring conditions.
