PSEG is replacing old meters with new smart meters. Meters will need to be moved outside as now required by Board of Public Utilities. A technician will need to go into homes to check all is functioning properly.
However, technicians will no longer need to enter houses for future meter readings once the smart meters are online.
PSEG has advised the Borough that customers will receive a notice at least 45 days before installation. However, please note that they may deviate from that procedure without notice to us.
If the meter is outside, no appointment is needed, but if it is inside, PSEG will contact you to schedule an appointment. Installations take a few minutes and include a brief power interruption.
