6-2-23

This past Monday, we recognized the brave servicemen & women from Haworth and all over the United States who died defending our country. While Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer, with parades and relaxing get togethers, the true meaning of Memorial Day is solemn. As President John F. Kennedy once said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them.”

We honor the dead best by treating the living well. Be respectful and compassionate in your daily discourse and debate. Be patient with strangers and friends alike. Check in with a neighbor. Make time to contribute to your community. Appreciate a beautiful day. Smile with your eyes. These seemingly small things are the free expression & choice that our lost ones fought to protect. We can never take these freedoms for granted.

Kennedy’s whole sentiment was this: Today we give our thanks, most of all, for the ideals we inherit from our ancestors which we must seek every day to emulate: the decency of purpose; the  steadfastness of resolve; the strength of will; and courage and the humility of sacrifice. As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.

Warmly,

Heather

In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Tensfeldt, Haworth Postmaster, on May 18, 2023.

Steve fought cancer long and hard these last few years, working the entire time, never wavering in his duty. We are grateful for his service and won’t ever forget the time he spent here.

Cards of condolence may be sent (dropped off) to the Tensfeldt Family c/o Haworth Post Office and they will be forwarded to his wife.
