Update on Tax Billing, 3rd Qtr 2008
Tax bills are currently being printed, and we anticipate mailing the bills on Friday, August 22nd.

The extended due date for 3rd Qtr 2008 is Wednesday, September 17.

This delay in billing/extension of due date for 3rd Qtr will have no effect on the due date for 4th Qtr taxes, which is November 1, 2008, as usual.

Thank you for your patience with this delay, and we appreciate your cooperation in being patient just a couple more days while we process the bills.

Dawn Wheeler, Tax Collector and Diane Holden, Deputy Tax Collector

Tax Billing Delay, 3rd Qtr 2008 Due to circumstances beyond the town's control, the tax bill for the second half of 2008/ the first half of 2009 has been delayed. We anticipate being able to mail bills in early/mid August, and the extended due date will be at least 25 days after the bills are mailed, according to statute. This message will be updated as we get closer to being able to bill. Thank you for your patience.

Be An Informed Taxpayer. Please read your tax bill when you receive it. Specific information about your property is printed on the front, and general information about taxes and procedures are on the back. Even if you have a mortgage, and the mortgage company is escrowing for taxes, you owe it to yourself to be informed about your real estate taxes.

Questions? If you have read the bill and still have questions, especially if you notice that your name or address appear incorrectly, please call the Tax Office, and we will be glad to assist you! (201) 384-0450, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Tax Due Dates: Taxes are due in quarterly installments, on the 1st day of the middle month of the quarter. These dates are set by the State of New Jersey:

1st Qtr
2nd Qtr
3rd Qtr
4th Qtr
February 1
May 1
August 1
November 1

Late Payments: Everyone forgets to pay bills occasionally. If you miss a tax payment, please call our office to find out how much interest is due before mailing your payment. Thank you!

Post-Dated Checks/Requests To "Hold" Checks: Please do not "post-date" your payments (write a future date on your check). Our bank does not allow us to deposit post-dated checks, and by statute, we are not permitted to hold checks.

A good rule of thumb to use when dating your check: When mailing your tax payment, date the check the day of mailing. If you bring your check in person to the tax office, date the check the day you come in. Thank you for your cooperation.

New Homeowners: Congratulations on your new home! At your closing, you should have received a copy of your tax bill from the previous owner. If you did NOT receive the bill, and you do not have a mortgage company escrowing your taxes, please call our office. By statute, it is the homeowner's responsibility to ascertain the amount and due dates of property taxes, but we need to hear from you in order to answer your questions!

Townwide Tax Collection Rate: We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for paying your taxes on time, as a good townwide tax collection rate is beneficial to all. As a result of your punctual payments, our tax collection rate for 2007 was 99%.

Property Tax Relief Programs: The State of New Jersey has several property tax relief programs available, including tax deductions for eligible seniors and veterans (or spouses of deceased veterans). These programs and their eligibility requirements are subject to change, so for the most up to date information, please click on the following link for The State of New Jersey Department of Taxation website.
