Police Department

Dear Haworth Resident,

Congratulations are in order to the residents of the Borough of Haworth. The April 2006 issue of New Jersey Monthly magazine featured an article that listed the best places to live in New Jersey. The State of New Jersey has 566 towns and, using their own system, New Jersey Monthly published a list of the top 100 places to live in New Jersey. Haworth was ranked 44th overall. While Haworth competed favorably in all areas the driving force behind this position was our ranking as the second safest community in New Jersey. The community that was ranked first reported no crime at all - a goal we strive for. But nonetheless a ranking of second is an accomplishment that we, as a community, can take pride in.

The Haworth Police Department takes special pride in this accomplishment. However, we would be remiss if we did not point out that it is not we alone that contribute to Haworth’s safety level. The residents of our community should receive the lion’s share of the credit. Without your cooperation, support and the dedication you have to your community the Haworth Police could not provide the level of service and response that have helped us achieve our level of safety.

No greater indication of the community’s spirit is reflected in the volunteerism of your neighbors. For example, the Haworth Police Auxiliary is a volunteer that supplements your regular police department with patrols, funding and training. They provide your regular police department with extra eyes and ears to keep your community safe. Our expanded Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program for the community’s children and our outreach to the senior citizens of Haworth all contribute to our success.

Please rest assured that we are not satisfied with being second. We will continue to encourage an active participation of our community with the police department and we have undertaken more training of our citizen groups, such as the police auxiliary, to further our pursuit of being number one.

We thank all of those who that have helped make our community a safe and prosperous place to live and we thank you for helping us so that we may help you.
