Borough of Haworth, New Jersey

Space Heater Safety

The Haworth Fire Company was founded in 1908 by the citizens of Haworth so that other towns didn't have to fight the fires in Haworth. The Borough's first firehouse was at the top of Tank Hill, where the engine was housed, as well as the equipment for the department.

In 1928, Fire Chief William P. McGloin, encouraged the Town to build the Hardenburgh Ave. firehouse, which at the time was two bays with a second floor. This facility was built on Hardenburgh Ave., between Garfield and Grant Street.

The Haworth Fire Department is a 100% volunteer department that protects the borough of Haworth, New Jersey in Bergen County. We are about 10 miles from New York City. We protect a population of about 3,500 people, as well as businesses in the Borough, 2 Country clubs, a water treatment facility, a reservoir, and acres of wooded areas. We are part of the Interboro Mutual Aid group, so we also provide assistance to our mutual aid towns such as Dumont, Demarest, Closter, and Harrington Park.

We encourage you to join Haworth's team of volunteers in protecting your family, friends, neighbors and community. All volunteers are provided with appropriate gear and training needed to become a firefighter. Additionally, Haworth sponsors a "Junior" program for teenagers fourteen to eighteen years old. Please feel free to stop by the Hardenburgh Avenue Firehouse any Sunday morning between 10 a.m. and 12 noon for details.
