Borough of Haworth, New JerseyCouncilman Arthur Berman |
Fall Newsletter 2005
As a resident of Bergen County for 45 years, 20 of those years in Haworth, I feel qualified to extol the many advantages of living here.
Not only are we surrounded by the physical beauty of trees, well-maintained properties, and clean streets, but also a government infrastructure that serves us well.
Being a member of the Council and Police Commissioner for the past five years, I can appreciate the complexities involved in satisfying the needs and wishes of our fellow citizens. There are always issues to be resolved, and after hearing from all who wish to make their thoughts and opinions known, the Council, by majority vote, makes its decision.
Of course, dissension is a part of the democratic process. All council meetings are open to the public, and participation is welcome.
We are especially fortunate to live in a community of volunteers: Men and women who extinguish fires, handle medical emergencies, assist the police, provide recreational activities, protect our trees and oversee health-related activities. Our group of OEM members are always ready should an emergency develop.
I am particularly proud of our Police Department. Our officers work closely with children through DARE and other activities, keep tabs on the elderly and are a vital component of our town.
I thank you for the opportunity and privilege to serve the Borough of Haworth.
