Borough of Haworth, New JerseyHow Our Borough Government Works |
Council Meetings
Each month of the year, two council meetings are held:
1st Wednesday of the month, 7:30 p.m. Executive session (work meeting)
2nd Tuesday of the month, regular meeting & council members report.
All meetings are open to the public and important action items are listed on the Borough web site.
Council Members' Responsibilities
Each January 1st, the Borough has a reorganization meeting, at which time each Council member is assigned a portfolio as chairman, and two other Council members are assigned as a committee:
| Chairman | Committee | |
| Police Department | Arthur Berman | Vincent Iacobino, Joan Livingston |
| Finance Committee | Stephen Chval | Vincent Iacobino, Ken Albrecht |
| Real Estate | Jeffrey Schwartz | Arthur Berman, Stephen Chval |
| Negotiating Committee | Stephen Chval | Vincent Iacobino, Arthur Berman |
| Ivy Avenue Bridge Committee | Jeffrey Schwartz | Stephen Chval, Vincent Iacobino |
This allows a three member council team to coordinate research activities, review budgets, personnel, and liaison with departments, commissions, committees, and vendors and contractors, to arrive at a plan to present to the entire council if action is required.
By utilizing this proven methodology, it spreads out the work load of your elected officials and allows for an agenda at both council meetings that maximizes the amount of action items to be voted on by the full council, with ample time for public input and committee reports.
If you have questions or concerns about any area listed above, please contact the respective chairman of that portfolio.
Borough Commission and Committees and Volunteer Departments
We are fortunate in Haworth that our neighbors volunteer their time to serve! A list of all commissions and committees are on our web site. They usually meet once a month (except July and August). All meetings are open to the public.
Fire Department and Ambulance Corps are all volunteers, and if you wish to join or find out more about them, stop by any Sunday morning at the Hardenburgh Avenue Fire House for the Fire Department or Park Street for the Ambulance Corps.
Non-Government Borough Entities
Contacts for the organizations listed above can be found in the Haworth Blue Book telephone directory (which is on sale at the library if you don't have one.)
